Major Earthquake Hits Christchurch

At a little past 4.30am Saturday 4th September the City of Christchurch was hit by a major earthquake which measured 7.1 on the Richter scale, with the epicenter of quake located some 30 kilometers west of the city. The city and surrounding regions have been subsequently hit by over 2,000 (two thousand) aftershocks to date, many of them significant.

As a result of the initial earthquake and the subsequant aftershocks many hundreds of homes and businesses have been damaged or destroyed, and areas of the city continue to be plagued by lack of power or water supplies. Thankfully no-one was killed, but at least 2 people were seriously injured.

Connexionz Head Office is located in Christchurch, and while the offices themselves have suffered no apparent damage some members of staff have reported significant damage to their homes and property, with at least one member of staff sadly losing their home. Thankfully no physical injuries to staff or their loved ones have been reported.

Staff have begun returning to work at the Christchurch offices, and no loss of service to our network operations and management systems have been reported.

Our staff continue to remain available to answer any of your enquiries should you wish to contact our head office. And our thoughts are with those adversly affected by the quake.
