Students at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, are making the most of Connexionz’s real time passenger information by having bus stop and arrival information delivered direct to their Android phones. WahooBus, a free Android App developed by a UVA student, was made specifically for the passengers using the bus system at UVA and within the Charlottesville area. Whenever students want to catch a bus, they can easily and quickly retrieve bus arrival information for any stop in the system.

WahooBus provides users with several ways to retrieve bus arrival information. Users can:

•  Enter a bus stop number to retrieve arrival information for all routes using that stop
•  Bookmark specific stops for easier information retrieval
•  Find the nearest bus stop based on the GPS coordinates of the phone’s location
• Obtain walking directions to all stops
• Use a map view to see all bus stops in the system

 Currently in version 2.3, over 500 students are enjoying the convenience of having real time bus arrival information delivered right to their hands.  The University of Virginia and the City of Charlottesville have been using the full Connexionz system since 2007. The system includes a Google Transit Feed that is available to anyone. While other real time passenger information systems do not make this information available to the public, Connexionz’s system makes this information available to anyone. WahooBus is the first Android App to deliver real time passenger information directly to Android phones. Similar applications exist for iPhones for other transit systems using Connexionz real time passenger information.

The latest smartphone application compliments the apps already available for the Apple iPhone, ensuring that tech savy passengers are able to access a wide range of real time data from the Connexionz ITS system now available on Android, iPhone and Blackberry phones.
